You recently collaborated with DJ Producer Drox on a track titled “Mercy”, how did the collaboration come about and how was it working with Drox?
Oh Drox and I have built a great working relationship over months now. The track ‘Mercy’ is the first of many to come. Drox’ team at Helicopta records reached out to us, and I was too thrilled to turn it down. Always a pleasure to work with a different kind of artist and Drox felt perfect.
The song is set for release on February 16th with a number of remixes or the track on the EP, do you have a favourite mix?
They hit me in different ways, but ‘Girl on the Beat’ is a favorite for me at the moment.
Where do you get the inspiration for your lyrics?
Wow, inspiration can be such a thing. I think I just really let it all flow. When I get down to work, first rule is to let myself so free that all I feel is the music. Everything about life! My environment, my relationships, people, and myself build up to what I’m inspired by. When it comes, it comes from a beautiful place, so beautiful it feels higher than us. I don’t question it, I just work.
Who do you like to listen to other than your own music?
Oh dear! I listen to a lot of people. Sometimes for the entertainment, most times to learn new tricks, new techniques, words, phrases, and such and such. But when it comes down to it, I’m mostly a reggae+hiphop girl. Most played on my playlists would be Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Imogen Heap whom I love to death, a lot of Eminem, Nas.
These past few years have been amazing for you, what can we expect from Eva in the future?
A lot! I’m just really grateful that I’m able to do the music I love and work with amazing people. My second EP is out in about a month and my Debut album for later this year. Asides the Drox mixes out right now, I also have the lead single from my EP which we just released in January. I’m also working on so many collaborations at the monent. I’m looking forward to much more work with Drox. A compilation CD maybe? Haha! We’d never know
